Fujifilm X100V: Unbox + First Look

This is my unboxing and first look at the new Fujifilm X100V. I know many have been asking for my thoughts on this latest X100 series camera, so thanks for your patience. Most of the things we wanted upgraded has been improved on the 5th version of the X100. The body is now weather-sealed with the exception of the front of the lens, which can be sealed with the filter adapter and filter. There’s an all new and much sharper lens, although I have yet to test this. There’s finally an articulating screen without making the body visibly thicker or heavier. And there’s a design refresh, slightly more modern looking while still looking like an X100 series camera. My only complaint is that it’s too uncontroversial (except for the missing D-Pad). I was hoping for the X-Pro3’s titanium top and bottom plate and unusual flip down articulating screen, so this is where there’s a divergence between these two series. For me I’m disappointed, but for most, this is a good decision. I’ve already begun my shooting impressions so please look for an upcoming video. I actually shot this a few weeks ago but delayed the release because I was working on the new X-T4 video. In fact, this video was shot using the new X-T4 + XF23mm f/2 R WR. I think the AF was smooth and accurate. Since the X100V has all the specs that would make it a good studio video camera for me, I will make sure to test its video capabilities. Thanks for watching, don’t forget to like (it’s important) and subscribe (also important).

TT Smasher says:

If they can put the sensor stabilizing in there, this is the babe!

Joseph Costa says:

Just picked one up today. Really an amazing little camera. Getting the xt4 in April provided no delays.

just received my black version of X100V yesterday! I had the 1st gen X100 when fuji released it in 2011. Then X100T and X100F before I sold them all for a leica M10. Now I am back to the fuji gang. I think this is going to be my go-to camera for daily travel and street photography given how light, compact and versatile it is. I really apprecate the engineering effort fuji puts into this product line. Especially the new sharp lens. Much sharper at F2.0 at close range compared to its predecessor.

Man, you forgot to talk about how sleek the top plate design on the V now. I guess this is why they include silver hot shoe cover, if you look at the top it goes pretty much the same level from the left across to the shutter/iso dial.
You mentioned the upgrade from F to V is about the processor but I think it's about the aesthetic and hardware as well. The V now how cleaner texture compare to F…Even doesn't have texture at all. So clean and looks much more premium. The dials are now more solid, if you try wiggle the dials (or on off switch) on the F you know how much better feel it is on the V. And lastly the OVF/EVF is much better too.
I think this will become more popular than the F.

Nathaniel Sy says:

Greetings. Great Review!

*May I inquire of the Shutter Life Actuation Expectancy of the X100v?

*Which color could potentially result in more finger smudges or eventual metal scratches (if camera is abused)? The Silver or black X100v version?

Thank you.

Myles Kalus says:

Is there any viewfinder blockage with the X70 hood while the X100V is in OVF?

UltimateChrisso says:

Way too hectic especially your hands moving all the time around the camera

i feel like reviewers are starting to lose sight what this camera thing should be about…not you personally & i know it's impressions. like the real stuff that's important…like being able to save white balance red/blue shifts & exposure comp (being able to set 'normal' exposure up or down without using auto so we don't have to remember) is the stuff we actually need. We have a camera like the new kodak we came to know & love from the past, perfect for new memories & fuji colours & dope simulation recipes people create online. yet NO ONE has asked why don't we have unlimited spaces for simulations. Or why we can't save more settings to a custom sim?? We have a quad core processor. No one can tell me it's not possible — it is. kodacolor, kodak ektar 100, AGFA APX 400…Like people are actually smart & figured out how to simulate a lot of film stocks. The number 1 thing fuji needs to be doing is letting people do what they want to have that camera that creates memories without film. But no one ever ever talks about this. It's a bit frustrating tbh…like what the cameras are actually about. Pumping out sick jpgs & not worrying a ton about editing if you don't want to. Fuji i believe is the best brand of camera functionally & stylistically, but there's like this 20-30% of missed potential that just kills me w/certain settings. I plan to make vids on it soon actually. just health issues.

Anyways thanks for the vids & your contributions all these years. definitely have made a mark.

I’ve ordered a black X100V and, while I await the camera arriving at the dealer, ordered a screen protector (anti glare, from Expert Shield uk), the Fujifilm lens hood, the weather seal kit, a new SD card (64gb) and a black soft release button from Artisan Obscura ( a buffalo horn Flatliner threaded)… I’ll use it with my black leather strap from 595Strapco)… a real stealth setup 😶
oh, and the X100V is the most beautiful camera in the the X100 lineup, and the entire Fuji range… That's from a former X-Pro 1, X100S and X-T1 owner…
Currently using my XF10 while I wait delivery, lovely wee camera

Robert Kahn says:

Great review Take. Very detailed and concise. Much appreciated.

Tom Vestvik says:

Still dreaming of an update to the X30. Got an X10 and X30, and love them both.

Cujobob says:

Aluminum dissipates heat better than titanium. Titanium can be stronger, but it depends on the type of aluminum (6 or 7K series). Aluminum is not necessarily a downgrade, titanium just shows a bit different and sounds more high end.

Inquisitve m says:

Still deciding between this and Sony RX1R2

Corb says:

Man I just love rangefinder styled cameras, it’s weird that only Fuji and Leica are the only ones continuing that style. Canon and Nikon had their own models back in the day, guess they figured it’s not worth it?

Earon Sotto says:

Nice review and awesome collection you have there!

Scott McCullough says:

Too many cameras on the table. It was making me manic. I couldn’t follow which one you were talking about.

Smeggypoo says:

Just get a screen protector. First thing I do when I buy a new FUJI cam. Like 12 bucks on AMAZON

Mister Mister says:

One of the best looks at the x100v, great work as always.

Maciek Sikora says:

Hehe, at least one. I use PDF copies of manuals and store them on NAS. No idea where printed ones are, probably in some box in the basement 🙂

Smeggypoo says:

Aww yes here we go!

Zumzifero says:

I got this camera a couple of days ago and, not having used Fuji since my X-F1, my biggest complain is the autofocus speed: it is sloooow and NOISY! I compared it with my Lumix GX9 mounting the infamous 20mm f1.7 and that is actually both faster and quieter, which is worth noting!
BTW, is there a way to activate the electronic zoom mode? it was working when I start the camera the first time but now it's grayed out in the menu. I tried resetting the camera to factory mode but it does not activates…

dannylin3000 says:

Some reviewers said it will overheat to up to 125 degrees F. Do you find a similar issue on yours?

Simon Williams says:

Hi Take, on one of my x100f's visit to the Fuji Aust service centre I had the brown covering fitted to my black "F". looks cool, and does feel better.

Evren Duman says:

Great matte leather-like material on X30 and shiny slippery bad cover for X100 series. I really don't understand.
